Study regulations
The most important documents for your Studies are the study regulations. Here you can find the current documents.
Module AQUA (Allgemeine Qualifikation) for Physics Bachelor
During your Bachelor’s degree, you’ll need to earn 8 AQUA credits. That might sound like a lot at first, but it isn’t. You’ll already receive two AQUA credits for the introductory seminar. This is a compulsory part of your degree programme anyway. That leaves just six credits, which you can earn through other activities.
In the past, the FSR has worked to ensure that we get AQUA points for almost everything you can do while studying at the university, since the goal of this module is to get involved in more than just physics during your time at university.
For example, you can get more than enough AQUA points for sports, committee work (e.g. FSR), language courses, "Studium Generale", physics colloquium, etc. until your bachelor's degree. You can find an overview of most of the courses that count towards AQUA here here. The Python course during the semester break is highly recommended, as it allows you to earn 4 AQUApunkte with relatively little effort.
Bachelor Thesis
How does the bachelor thesis work?
In principle, the Bachelor’s thesis is scheduled for the sixth semester. However, you can also complete it earlier or, indeed, later. Once you have registered, you have 12 weeks to work on your Bachelor’s thesis. This includes research, collecting and analysing data, and finally writing, printing, etc. The length varies considerably: the Examinations Office recommends 20 pages. However, it often ends up being between 20 and 40 pages. Submission is followed by the defence. This is a 20- to 30-minute presentation, after which questions may be asked. The date can be arranged individually with the supervisor and is usually around two weeks after submission.
How do I register?
All you have to do is submit the appropriate form to the examination office, which you can find here: https://tu-dresden.de/mn/studium/formulare-studiendokumente
Is there anything I need to consider when choosing a supervisor?
For the thesis you have a first and a second corrector. Both have to be a teacher at the faculty of physics at the TU Dresden. However, many professors also have typical partners who then act as second correctors. If you want to write your Bachelor thesis abroad or at another university, there is also the possibility to request "external review". This requires the approval of the examination board. You can find the corresponding form under the link above.

Information on postponing courses
Some of you probably feel like you can’t keep up with all your modules. And not necessarily because the subject is too difficult, but simply because you don’t have enough time. But that’s no problem at all. The timetable – as it stands – is by no means set in stone. It’s more of a recommendation. Across Germany, the average duration of studies also exceeds the intended length. But which courses are best to postpone, and which ones are better left where they are? To help with this, we’ve put together a short list summarising some of the pros and cons of postponing for all your first-semester courses.
zu den genauen Infos
How do you postpone a course?
Postponing courses is quite simple. All you have to do is… nothing. The reason for this is that you’re not obliged to complete the courses in a specific semester; you just need to have completed them at some point to obtain a Bachelor’s degree. This means that as long as you haven’t registered for the exam in that course, you haven’t attended it. It doesn’t matter how often you attended the lectures, or how many groups you signed up for on Opal for that course. Of course, it’s also possible to withdraw from the exam if you change your mind. However, only within the specified deadline for withdrawing from the exam. So you can still decide to postpone a course even at the end of the lecture term.
What should you bear in mind before you postpone?
Before you postpone a course, you should be aware that, in most cases, it will result in your degree programme taking longer. As all semesters in Physics are already quite full, it is often not possible to catch up on courses without freeing up time elsewhere. To do this, you usually have to defer another course. This pattern continues right up until the end of your degree. This has a particularly significant impact if you’re heavily reliant on your BAföG grant. This is because the grant amount is reduced after the
