The Fachschaftsrat (FSR) is a part of the Students council and focuses on specific degree programs: At our university, these include the bachelor’s, master’s, and teacher certification programs in physics, as well as the master’s program in Organic and Molecular Electronics (OME).
Motivation
Why is the Fachschaftsrat important?
The Student Council is the direct link between students and university politics. It sends elected representatives to all important committees and ensures the flow of information downwards. It also organizes various events such as the freshman orientation week, the Feuerzangenbowle and the summer barbecue.
Is it possible my work at the Fachschaftsrat hurts my study efforts?
With us, everyone can get involved to the extent that they are able and willing to do so. It’s also possible to apply for a so-called “committee semester” for work on a committee, which is then not counted toward your study period (e.g., for BaFöG).
Can I contribute as a non-elected Member?
The FSR also consists to a large extent of non-elected members, so-called associates, who contribute no less to the FSR work than elected members. However, they do not have the possibility to vote for resolutions or to hold the position of speaker or financier. For other things, such as representing the FSR in a body (e.g. Student Council), one does not have to be an elected member of the FSR, as the mandate is transferred by delegation.

FSR structure
When and where do the meetings take place?
The Meetings of the FSR Physics always take place mondays, 7 pm in the Recknagel Building. The exact room is usually decided on the spot (often REC/D016—just show up a little early at the FSR office (Recknagel Building, D Wing, first door on the left on the ground floor)).

Can anyone attend the meeting?
Yes. The FSR meetings are public and therefore everyone can come by.
How long does a meeting usually last?
The meeting time can vary strongly depending on the current topics. On average a meeting lasts about 2 hours. But the FSR strives to hold the meetings short and efficient.
IT
Where do I have to register to participate in the FSR?
The FSR uses various channels for self-organization. These include the email distribution list, the Element group, and the wiki.
I am overwhelmed, who can I ask for help?
The first people to contact regarding IT issues are Justin Gründling, Ilja List, or Luca Fischer. Of course, any other member of the FSR is also available to offer advice and assistance.
Events
Which events does the FSR organize?
The first events most students will encounter are the freshman orientation sessions, which are organized and hosted by the FSR. We also organize social events such as the Feuerzangenbowle, the summer barbecue, and music nights. In addition, we offer field trips to various research institutions such as CERN or HZDR.
Office
Who do I contact regarding the files?
To the individuals responsible for the files (Members). In principle, however, most FSR members should be able to help with any urgent issues in this regard.

How do i get into the FSR? Who has the storage key?
The key to the office and storage are found in the mini-safe next to the office door. Additionally many members have a key.
